Who We Are
It all started when a group of high school moms were out to breakfast in 1984. They asked their waiter what his plans were following graduation. He explained that he wanted to go to college but it was not an option due to the high cost.
Carol Dark, one of those Kirkwood High moms, decided this really was unfair and something needed to be done about it. Carol and a group of friends personally put up funds to establish KAPS, the Kirkwood Area Perpetual Scholarship organization. Family and friends of Kirkwood High students and alumni were encouraged to contribute to the KAPS fund.
Fast forward 35 years. Over $450,000 has been awarded by KAPS and several hundred students have been assisted in following their dreams of a college education.
The work goes on as a dedicated group continues to raise funds to help other KHS graduates.
